Economic Development Program Assistant
Position: Program Assistant
Department: Economic Development Program
Reports to: Director of Economic Development
Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)
Rate: $40,000/year
FLSA : Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
Dominican Women’s Development Center’s Economic Development Department seeks a hard-working, energetic and committed individual, with the capacity to work independently and in a team environment. The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to the Program Director and will be crucial in maintaining accurate participant records. This individual will work closely with the team to develop ideas, programming, and solutions that act as a catalyst in developing equitable community wealth. The ideal candidate will support advocacy and initiatives that will strengthen small businesses and will collaborate with local stakeholders to help create a self-sustainable ecosystem that is conducive to greater financial health outcomes in Washington Heights and Inwood.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Program Director with designing, implementing, and monitoring the success of economic development programs such as business attraction, small business assistance, commercial revitalization, business retention, and district marketing.
- Assist the Program Manager with providing technical assistance to small business owners to improve profitability.
- Assist planning and managing all economic development events and activities.
- Assist the Program Director with all marketing-related activities.
- Assist in the development of various reports.
- Assist the Program Director with creating surveys, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data received.
- Conduct personalized outreach to small businesses and entrepreneurs.
- Maintain the files and records of the economic development department, including electronic files on the DYCD Connect Portal.
- Commitment to Implement Agencies Mission and Principles
- Participate actively in Organization and Community Sponsored Events.
- Assist in mobilizing Program participants to actively participate in organization and community sponsored events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
- Associate degree and 3 year’s experience working with businesses preferred.
- Strong oral, written, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make oral presentations to community stakeholders and officials.
- Familiarity with Washington Heights and Inwood businesses preferred.
- Familiarity with Mailchimp, canvas, and photoshop.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient computer skills, including proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrating active listening and interpersonal skills.
- Working collaboratively with local governments and stakeholders.
- Special events may require working hours during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Interpersonal skills in a group setting or a one-to-one situation.
