EDM Setup Machinist

Position Overview:

Northeast Tool is seeking an EDM Setup Machinist to be responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining multiple Fanuc wire EDM machines to produce precision aerospace components. This role owns the complete EDM process from programming through preventative maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Programming & Setup

• Program wire EDM toolpaths using Mastercam Wire based on engineering drawings, models, and process plans.
• Set up and operate multiple Fanuc EDMs to support Master Production Schedule
• Load programs, set work offsets, align parts, thread wire, and verify setups prior to production runs.
• Select appropriate wire, power settings, and cutting strategies to meet tolerance, surface finish, and material requirements.

Machine Operation

• Operate EDM machines according to manufacturing routing, traveler instructions, and quality requirements.
• Monitor machine performance during runs; make offsets or adjustments as needed.
• Perform first-article verification and in-process inspections using precision measuring tools.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.

Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Readiness

• Proactively maintain EDM equipment to ensure uptime and reliability, including changing filters, replacing wire spools, descaling chillers, and draining and cleaning water tanks.
• Identify potential equipment issues early and communicate with Maintenance or Site Leadership.
• Maintain proper dielectric water quality and system cleanliness.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure all parts meet drawing specifications, customer requirements, and aerospace quality standards.
• Follow documented procedures, work instructions, and safety policies.
• Support audits and inspections as required (AS9100, customer audits, etc.).

Required Skills & Experience

• Associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology, Engineering, or Industrial Discipline preferred
• 5+ years’ experience operating and setting up wire EDM machines (Fanuc preferred).
• Strong experience with Mastercam Wire programming.
• Ability to read and interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience holding tight tolerances on precision components.
• Knowledge of EDM consumables, cutting strategies, and process optimization.
• Comfortable working independently and owning the EDM process end-to-end.
