The City and Borough of Juneau recruiting for its next Fire Chief!
Under the direction of the City Manager the Fire Chief is the departments principal executive officer and serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the municipality. Juneau is the major population (approximately 32000) and economic center in Southeast Alaska and the capital of the state. The CBJ encompasses an area of 3600 square miles. The Capital City Fire/Rescue Department provides fire and EMS services to the citizens of Juneau Alaska. This position generally works Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. with meetings outside of regular work hours. This recruitment is open until filled. We encourage all applicants who are interested in this position to apply in a timely fashion.The Fire Chief plans and directs the operation and activities of all volunteer and paid fire department personnel and equipment in the City and Borough of Juneau.
These activities include but are not limited to:Ensuring adequate firefighting equipment and personnel are available and ready for emergencies.
Coordinating the transfer of equipment and personnel between stations during emergencies.
Ensuring all firefighting automotive and portable equipment and tools are maintained and operable.
May respond to fire alarms and take charge at scenes.
Assuming overall command of major fires and other emergencies.
Coordinating and implementing a training program for fire department personnel.
Coordinating a fire inspection and fire safety program throughout the community.
Recommending and initiating the acquisition of firefighting rescue salvage and related emergency equipment for the community.
Investigating fires and reporting findings.
Ensuring necessary records reports correspondence and other documents are prepared and properly maintained.
Preparing and administering the department budget.
Desirable Qualifications
Education: A bachelors degree from an accredited college. Experience: Four (4) years of command or supervisory firefighter experience in a department of comparable size to the Juneau Fire Department. The experience should include administrative responsibilities.The Fire Chief is within the partially exempt service and serves at the pleasure of the City Manager.
