Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description The phlebotomist plays a crucial role in assisting with various duties, troubleshooting, training, and providing workflow recommendations. This position involves performing blood draws, labeling and centrifuging specimens, and maintaining accurate records. The phlebotomist ensures the proper collection and storage of specimens, following established procedures and maintaining compliance with regulations. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, and recording maintenance data. + Decontaminate work areas and update patient information. + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. + Understand and follow physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures. + Follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results. Essential Skills + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. + 2-4 years of relevant experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with pediatric and geriatric patients is beneficial. Work Environment The role involves working at various IOP and PSC locations, which can vary in size and patient volume. The phlebotomist will be on their feet most of the time, requiring walking to patient rooms for blood draws. Depending on the location, you may work independently or as part of a team. Training will be conducted at Winston-Salem PSC, followed by two weeks of hands-on training. The role requires the ability to perform 50-60 draws daily, depending on the site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Winston-Salem, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
