Job Description

LaSalle Network is hiring a Senior Director of Technology for a growing, modern retail organization headquartered in Chicago. This Senior Director of Technology will play a defining role in shaping the company’s next chapter—balancing hands-on engineering work with long-term strategy, vendor management, and cross-functional leadership. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments and love switching between writing production code and driving technical direction, this is an opportunity to make a major impact.

What’s the job?

  • Lead the company’s overall technology strategy across backend services, mobile apps, infrastructure, and in-store systems
  • Write production-level Python and PHP code while setting engineering standards and best practices
  • Oversee BI and reporting systems, ensuring accurate data models, dashboards, and business insights
  • Manage the architecture, scalability, and reliability of core systems, including MySQL databases and AWS infrastructure
  • Partner with leaders across operations, merchandising, marketing, and finance to align technical roadmap with business goals
  • Manage technical vendors, engineering partners, and third-party platforms
  • Drive complex, cross-functional projects from scope through delivery
  • Implement strong security, observability, and scalability practices

What’s needed?

  • 6–10 years of engineering experience, ideally in high-growth or startup environments
  • Proficiency in Python, PHP, API design, and modern backend frameworks
  • Hands-on AWS experience (EC2, RDS/Aurora, ECS/Fargate, S3, networking)
  • Strong MySQL knowledge including schema design, data modeling, and query optimization
  • Experience with mobile technologies (iOS, Android, or React Native)
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical partners
  • Vendor management experience
  • Strong project management and prioritization abilities
  • A problem-solving mindset with a bias toward ownership and continuous improvement

What’s in it for me?

  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Hybrid schedule (three days onsite in Chicago)
  • Ability to influence and build the next stage of the company’s technology environment
