Job Description

**Essential Job Functions:

**

• Adhere to all safety regulations and/or directives

• Inspect, test, adjust, accept, or reject new and reworked tools, dies, gauges, etc. for conformance to specifications.

• Work closely with Engineers, Supervisors and Mechanics in analyzing defective parts, tooling, etc. to determine source of trouble and recommend corrective action to be taken.

• Maintain tab die tooling so as to provide a tab within established specifications.

• Check production as required during preventive maintenance, set-ups, overhauls, changeovers, etc., using instruments such as dial indicators, go and no-go gauges and pin gauges prior to making production runs to ensure tooling is performing to requirements.

• Rework worn tooling per rework specifications as time and equipment permits.

• Calibrate tools, gauges, etc. based on a prescribed schedule.

• Tag, number and send all incoming parts to stores.

• Handle any other exceptional maintenance projects and/or duties on an as needed basis under the Maintenance Supervisor's direction.

• Work with outside tooling vendors to ensure parts meet specifications.

• Work with Silgan Engineers or supplier's engineers on projects, troubleshooting or design problems.

• Communicate with outside machine shops on repair or fabrication of parts and equipment and arrange for such.

• Order tooling and parts on occasion.

• Keep blueprints, tooling, tools, etc. returned to proper storage area.

• Handle pallets, tools, tooling, equipment, etc. as required.

• Climb ladders, elevators, and equipment during the course of performing job duties.

• Travel may be required to a vendor's shop or to attend a function related to the can industry.

• Maintain clean work area and perform other cleaning duties as assigned by Management

• Assist in training other employees and Management Trainees as required.

• Attend training sessions as required.

• Exercise proper care and protection of company property

• All other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Management

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Able to work at high speeds and multitask

• Dependable and flexible to work overtime as needed

• Ability to get fork truck certified

• Able to work with little supervision

• Able to work at heights including use of steps and ladders

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :

• High school diploma or equivalent

• A minimum of 2-5 years machinist experience in a manufacturing environment.

**REQUIRED SKILLS: **

• Ability to use mechanical tools to include measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, etc.).

• Ability to operate the required machinery (mills, lathes, surface grinders, welders, etc.)

• Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints and technical manuals.

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: **Ability to kneel, stoop, crawl, squat and stand for extended periods of time while performing job duties (up to 12 hours a day). Ability to push, pull, bend, climb steps and ladders, walk, and lift on a continuous basis (up to 12 hours a day). Be able to lift up to 50 pounds to waist level on an occasional basis.
