Principal Additive Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Ventura, CA (ON-SITE)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and optimization of additive manufacturing processes, with a focus on FDM/FFF technologies.

  • Drive continuous improvement in printing processes through advanced G-code optimization and rigorous Design of Experiments (DOE) studies to enhance quality, speed, and reliability of our manufacturing process.

  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Dissect complex challenges into manageable tasks, diagnose root causes, and implement robust solutions across the production workflow.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership, product design and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and communication.

  • Drive research and development of new materials and processes, including material qualification and performance validation.

  • Develop advanced G-code post-processing scripts and automation tools, with a focus on programming in Python or other languages, to enhance workflow efficiency and integrate with production systems.

  • Serve as a technical authority on 3D printing, providing insights and expertise to guide key business decisions and initiatives.

  • Contribute to the company's intellectual property (IP) portfolio by identifying and protecting novel processes and technologies.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5-102-5 years of professional work experience usingwith andc programming FDM/FFF 3D printing technology or CNC machines.

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience with FDM/FFF 3D printing technology.

  • Proven track record of demonstrated leadership and project management in a technical environment.

  • Extensive experience with deep-level process optimization and a strong understanding of FDM/FFF printer calibration, thermal dynamics, and material science.

  • Exceptional problem-solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to manage complex technical challenges.

  • Expertise in developing custom G-code post-processing scripts, preferably in Python.

  • Strong understanding of and experience with materials and process development.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments using various project management tools.

  • Must be willing to relocate to Ventura, CA.
